Ryan has served First Baptist Church, Grapevine since June 2008. Ryan became a Christian as a young boy and was called to full-time Christian service through working with children and helping them to seek God’s direction and purpose in their lives. Ryan grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University with a dual degree in Applied Ministry with an emphasis in Children’s Ministry and Bible. Ryan also holds a Master of Arts with an emphasis in Children’s Ministry from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In the fall of 2003 while at OBU, Ryan met his wife, Barbara, who faithfully and joyfully serves with him in his ministry to Preschoolers and Children. Ryan and Barbara have one son, James and they reside in Euless. He has worked with children through various ministries since 2000 in preparation for his ministry. Ryan’s vision for Children’s Ministry is to reach and teach children and equip their families in ways that will give them the greatest possible opportunity to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. Ryan builds his philosophy for Children’s Ministry from Deuteronomy 6:4-9, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”
Matt graduated from Hardin-Simmons in 2001 with a BBS in Church Ministry, an emphasis on Youth Ministry, and a Minor in Psycholgy. He continued his education at Truett Seminary at Baylor University and then on to Southwestern Seminary. At 34, Matt has an excitable passion for the local church. He is the son of a Pastor and has served in the ministry for 15 1/2 years. During that time, he has lead as a student pastor and as teaching and small groups pastor.
Matt is married to his amazing wife, Brittney. They have two beautiful / crazy little boys, Quinn and Nash. "ThePoeFam" enjoys doing just about everything together in the evenings and on Fridays. It is safe to say that there is quite a bit of wrestling going on in the house, but mommy does not participate. To go along with all of the wrestling, Matt enjoys playing, soccer, basketball, golf and football. He is also a graphic design GEEK.
As the Student Pastor at FBCG, Matt's number one desire is to see students and their families become unique disciples of Jesus Christ, just as GOD designed them to be. In this, it is his belief that they will then naturally "BE" the teachings of Jesus Christ and ELEVATE OTHERS.
